Farewell, Kirk (Derived Energy)

Folks, tragic news: it seems Derived Energy, aka Kirk, has taken his own life. I was sent this link. From Google translate it seems Kirk committed suicide while undergoing treatment in a drug rehabilitation centre. There was a note left for his family.

I met Kirk once late last year for a couple of drinks in London. We had a very enjoyable chat about AN and the madness of life in general. I am deeply shocked by this very sad news. My condolences to his friends and family.

    1. The only time you can have peace is when you aren't around to enjoy it. Goodbye to... fading breath.

    2. Ann, I think Sister Y once wrote that her most peaceful moments ever were when she made her suicide attempt.

    1. Yeah, if you want all the grizzly details, put the article into Google translate.

    2. Are we assuming the Indonesian authorities are trustworthy? How do we KNOW that he committed suicide? That is fucked up country, anything could have happened.

    3. Yup, maybe he was killed as a punishment for escaping from prison. Why didn't he leave the country?

    4. He didn't escape; he was released. And let's call a halt to the conspiracy theories until more info is gathered.

    5. Really? I recall Kirk saying he escaped by hiding in a trash container.

    6. I'm not trying to start conspiracy theories, but it's just irresponsible to assume these superstitious fuck nuts can be trusted. Did they know about his philosophy/videos?

  7. Derived Energy will be missed. He always supported suicide as a rational, reasonable response to the world, as well as a brave one. I'm sure he'd want us to see his own, if applicable, in this same light.

  8. Sweet Oblivion. I'm saddened to see such a Champion of AN go, but i'm happy that he is finally at peace. No more bullshit, no more fighting the insanity called Life. Sundog and DerivedEnergy , you are missed.

  9. D/E free now. I hope to join him soon. Happy for him that he has gained his freedom from the chains of earth at last - Aleis

  10. maybe there should be a section on this website and others encouraging people to therapy if they are suicidal. it probably wouldn't help much, but it'd be worth a try.

    1. Implying that a desire for suicide is a malady needing 'help'.

Who the fuck says that killing yourself is bad.

    2. Suicidal behavior often is a malady needing 'help'. Please familiarize yourself with the reasons people actually kill themselves on a daily basis.

  11. How can we be sure this news is true? Maybe he didn't die. Maybe he is alive. We need confirmation.

    1. Yes, and Why did the bucket contain pink water? That suggests the presence of blood, but why was there blood if he just drowned himself? Also, in his videos he seemed an upbeat fellow (unlike the late Wilhelm Alexander/sundog), with a sense of humor . So in spite of his defense of euthanasia, it did not appear to me like Kirk was personally suicidal.

    2. Disagree with the last bit. I thought his videos were becoming less humourless. I think the time in jail was terrible for him. A damned shame he couldn't have gotten home to England.

  12. Whenever one of you regular bloggers stops posting for awhile, in my paranoia, this is exactly what I fear: that I (we) have lost you forever to the Great Void. I fully respect Kirk's decision, and I'm even happy for him, because this is quite clearly what he wanted. But I'm selfishly so saddened by it. His videos were a refuge... a refreshing voice in a cold, mad world. Dear Kirk, you will be missed and your memory cherished.

  13. Depressing...sad...poignant...that fine line between complaining, feeliing the blues, and the knowing and feeling the meaningless of every damn last minutia of this hell hole. I always have my doubts if I am projecting my present emotional state or if AN is the meta thesis, that's objective reality? Very sad for Kirk, I hope that he found his freedom from suffering.

  14. I think Kirk indeed killed himself. If the Indonesian authorities wanted to kill him, they could have easily done so while he while he was still jailed and say he attacked a guard or tried to escape. Still, more facts are I'm sure anticipated by all who appreciated the man.

  15. This is truly sad. Thanks for informing us, Karl. I hope you don't follow ...

    1. I'll try and hold on, as I hope we all will. If anyone's feeling utterly hopeless and suicidal, I hope they can feel they can use the blogs and Facebook to talk to others. A sympathetic ear is always available.

  16. Since most antinatalists are profoundly depressed people, suicide doesn't surprise me. I believe Karl, imendham, Dima, are the next to go...
It's just a matter of time.

    4. Good god. Would you say something like that at someone's funeral? If you believe life is a good thing why would you be so disrespectful of someone's death?

Jesus. Let him rest in peace.

    5. I vaguely remember Karl having said elsewhere that he's never suffered from depression.

  17. Well, I couldnt care less. I have a nice happy life and I will live as long as I can. If you guys think suicide is the better option.. Go for it.

    1. Sometimes I wish all pain of the world upon the life of the breeders. They need to experience all misery and suffering of this world, to understand what horrible imposition life is. It's easy to come with their life-affirming crap, and trying to justify procreation when they are not the ones who experience extreme suffering.

People are selfish and don't care about anything unless it affects them personally.
I wish the hell upon everyone who brings children to this world.

    2. Anonymous, I am sorry about your pain and I hope you are able to alleviate it someday. But I am concerned about your wanting others to feel harm. I don't know you so I don't want to assume, but please do not hurt anyone. Something that helps me to empathize with people and not wish them harm is that I realize that a lot of "breeders" actually DO suffer, some more than me. But they seem to have a mental block that prevents them "getting it." It's all rather sad. Again, I wish you peace someday. You don't deserve the pain you are feeling. I just want you to know that I care for you.

  19. Kirk Neville exited life on his own terms; Kirk exited life at a moment of his own choosing; Kirk exited life in a part of the world that intrigued him. Should be honored for the choice he made.

    1. Not so sure about that. According to his friends, shortly before his death he was looking forward to escaping Indonesia and returning home. Something went horribly wrong for him.

    2. How could anyone commit suicide by drowning in a bucket of water? Ain't gonna happen.

      Delete
    3. The Google translation of the news article states that Kirk was found in a "kajang position". This is what a kajang position looks like on Google Image Search. It seems like a very unusual and suspicious way to drown yourself. I hope his family or someone else is able to find out more.

  20. I just now found out about this!!!! Can't believe it!!! I've had so much stuff to do in my life, I've been practically on unspoken hiatus!!!

R.I.P Kirk, the first YT AN I got to know, and second I knew about after Gary (though I in no way adhere to Gary's brand of AN).

From what I've heard, it's not really clear exactly how Kirk died, but I'm pretty sure it isn't suicide. Drown in a bucket of water? I simply can't accept that one! Sounds like someone killed him, but I'm not even going to settle on that one.

Regardless, Kirk, you will be missed; even if you aren't suffering any more.

  23. If it wasn't murder by the Indians, which it probably was, it was suicide because they wouldn't let him out of there. 4 months for some pot? Someone nuke that country please.
