The Hypocrisy of Environmentalists

So, a new report today saying it is "95% certain" that humans are the cause of global warming. Wow, shock, horror. I always thought it was the squirrels myself.

Of course, the media reaction was to summon the usual bleeding heart figures, wringing their hands and talking about a "wake-up call" and the need for "urgent action".

I find all this to be horseshit, as most environmentalists I've seen or encountered

A) Drive cars
B) Eat meat
C) Have children

Or basically perform all the things that damage the environment most. But as we all know environmentalism isn't about the environment, it's about humans being allowed to continue their joyriding lifestyle.

The only realistic action would be to impose a Chinese style limit on family sizes, but in the west that could never happen, so the hot air will continue to increase, both in the atmosphere and from the mouths of the environmentalists.

  2. Nonsense, Karl. Climate Change is caused by Alien Teddy-bears from Alpha Centauri. They are all over the place, tinkering with the sky, the clouds, the rivers - and they are breeding like humans.

    5. Prozac and all other antidepressants are all placebos and no more effective than a sugar pill. The government would never legalize an actual "happy pill".

    6. Antidepressants work by making people stupid so that they can believe life is worth living. It seems to have been effective for Anonymous September 28.

    7. If antidepressants actually made people stupid then I would gladly take them (I've gone through three different brands and each had nary an effect). But the truth is anon was already stupid, I could give him sugar pills and tell him it was Prozac and it would have the same effect. All some people need is to believe that they have something inside of them making them happy and they will become happier. But a placebo only works for about 50% of people (just as antidepressants only work for about 50% of people). The drug companies have managed to get away with this by publishing the successful studies and withholding the unsuccessful ones. So yes, an 11 billion dollar industry is based on lies and deceit.

  5. Yes, Karl. Environmentalists are just like the woman in the cartoon 'Ecollusion' (Nina's Adventures) here. http://vhemt.org/economics.htm

They could've shown her driving an "eco-car" taking eco-stuff back home instead of running on foot, of course.

  6. Karl,

    Couldn´t agree more.
I used to be a part of a group of environmentalists back in 09, before becoming more engaged with the AN community (thank god or whatever being for that). I left because yeah, environmentalism isn´t really about the environment really. Our group was composed of young fellows and ladies and people just wanted to hook up, party up, and all that shit. Yeah, there are a few and between that take it somehow seriously, but even they don´t stop having kids, polluting, and eating meat - and many other activities that don´t help at all.

So, yeah. Big waste of time there.

    Cheers, thanks for the post!

p.s.: If you are reading this, and care about the environment somehow, and you are AN, this comment is not for you.

  9. The Hypocrisy of Antinatalists

So, a new report today saying it is "99.9999% certain" that the human population will be increasing. Wow, shock, horror. I always thought it was decreasing myself.

Of course, the antinatalist reaction was to summon the usual bleeding heart figures, wringing their hands and talking about a "wake-up call" and the need for "urgent action".

I find all this to be horseshit, as most antinatalists I've seen or encountered:

Or basically perform all the things that damage humanity the most. But as we all know antinatalism isn't about compassion for children, it's about antinatalist being allowed to continue their promiscuous sexlife.

The only realistic action would be to impose a Chinese style extermination holocaust on antinatalists, but in the west that could never happen, so the hot air will continue to increase, both from the mouths and anuses of the antinatalists.

    1. Well, seeing as how ANs generally don't procreate, that pretty much deflates your rhetoric and accusation of hypocrisy, dumbo. As for AN being about continuing their promiscuous sex life, I really don't know where that comes from.

"So, a new report today saying it is "99.9999% certain" that the human population will be increasing. Wow, shock, horror. I always thought it was decreasing myself."
      ?!

'the antinatalist reaction was ... talking about ... the need for "urgent action".'
      ACTION? ACTION?!

      "A) Drive cars"
      Wrong.

      "B) Eat meat"
      Double wrong.

      "C) Burn carbon fuels."
      And the environmentalists don't?

"Or basically perform all the things that damage humanity the most."
      How?

"But as we all know antinatalism isn't about compassion for children, it's about antinatalist being allowed to continue their promiscuous sexlife."
This is ridiculous. Both on what it is about and what it is not about.

These people seem to add up the little bit of sin in each antinatalist and add them all up for a "holier than thou". Even ignoring that our sins shall die with us where as their's shall cling on, and grow, this is complete rubbish.

"The only realistic action would be to impose a Chinese style extermination holocaust on antinatalists, but in the west that could never happen, so the hot air will continue to increase, both from the mouths and anuses of the antinatalists."
As for the "extermination", BRING IT ON! (With the only conditions of dignity and anesthesia.)

And as for the hot air, it's only until they die, idiot!

  10. My favorite aspect of this article is how short it is. Most of the lifers love it so much, that they overdo everything, decking the halls when they don't need to. You say what you need to, clearly and succinctly.

  11. When a lifer writes something, it's always multiple pages, as the writer gets off on his words. You say just as much in a little post, getting your point across, but that's it. Little to no ego in the words. Perfect.

  13. As an accidental anti-natalist I am at something of a disadvantage here, I just don't 'get' the angst about children or their absence, I am way too calm for my own good. Of the list you give we have been eating meat and burning carbon fuels on a large scale in the UK since the industrial revolution, from circa 1760 to 1820, and we have exported the habit too, now at the cost of fuller employment at home. We have been eating meat and haphazardly breeding for a long time before that, though I imagine meat consumption was for high days and holy days for most subjects of the crown, which has existed and ruled us in different ways for over a millenium, and childbirth being hazardous to health did not limit the number of chidren couples wanted. So what has changed now? 1-The scale of our consumption of meat, 2-the amount of food, some 50% of food in the UK, that is thrown away in the name of 'choice'. 3-cheap popular air flights are relatively new and I am sure if passengers were charged/taxed by their carbon footprint then flights would be neither cheap nor popular. But that would show the difference between pilgrimage and tourism. So what would life be like if we did cut back? Like it was under wartime and post war rationing? There may well be a virtue in life being very dull and lacking immoral choices, for us being genuinely-almost scientifically-virtuous towards planet earth, but I think that many of us would feel that life had lost it's flavour with that life-choice. Even though it would be a life-choice in the fullest sense of the phrase possible.

Indeed, as Karl says in his post, the global warming people should advocate population reduction if they want to be taken seriously at all.

And of course, since most people are trash, procreation is really a form of littering.

  15. "We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. “Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails.” And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. Save the planet, we don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet. I’m tired of this shit. I’m tired of f-ing Earth Day. I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

We’re going away. Pack your shit, folks. We’re going away. And we won’t leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam … The planet’ll be here and we’ll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet’ll shake us off like a bad case of fleas.

The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we’re gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, ’cause that’s what it does. It’s a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

    Plastic… asshole.”
